hey, this keeps me from having to blog anything tonight! I've found something worth reading so you don't have to get your daily supplement of blogginess from The League today.
My old high school pal, Meredith, has started up a blog. Meredith is good people, so you should head over there and see what you can see.
And if you're a former Klein Oak Panther, make sure you pop over to her comments section and identify yourself to Mere. I know she's want to say "howdy".

Troubles McSteans!
Jamie has decided to launch a blog.
I have no clue where the urge came from, and I'm not asking.
Unlike many bloggers, Jamie has a story to share. Its a story I've mentioned here, but that I've kept somewhat close to the vest as I never felt it was my story to tell.
It's my hope that through the blog, you'll see a bit of what I see in Jamie. I wouldn't have gotten serious about her if she weren't smart and funny. She's insightful, tough and genuinely cares about other people. She's also fighting every day, and I hope maybe you can get something out of how she handles her trials and tribulations with no small amount of panache.
It'll be interesting to see where she does with the blog, and if she decides to stick with it.
So, pop over for a visit, will you?

Items for Wednesday
ITEM! Randy finds a strip that is all too accurate.
ITEM! It's only taken, like, two years, but they're finally wrapping up the "Last Son" storyline in Action Comics Annual #11 coming out this week. Great googledy-moogledy. I'd heard the Kubert Brother working on this had "health" problems that kept him from working on this comic and getting it in on time. He also helps run the Joe Kubert School of Cartooning or whatever in NYC. I understand health issues can be private, so I'm not looking for an explanation. But I wish DC had hired another artist and wrapped this up a while back. Hopefully DC has their scheduling straightened out for the foreseeable future on the Superman titles.
ITEM! Hi, Denise! How are you? How are the kids?
ITEM! Entertainment Weekly has preview pages of Final Crisis #1
ITEM! Jason, Jamie, Julia... sorry about the whole Speed Racer thing last night. I had passes to a sneak peek, but I thought they were for the nearby Westgate Theater. When I grabbed them to get ready to go, I realized they were for the Gateway Theater on the other end of town. So... we didn't end up going due to the time.
ITEM! The Met has a show right now called "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy", featuring superhero costumes right alongside some of the more extreme fashion ideas. Especially from the 80's, I think.
Click here for The Beat's report and to see an amazing statue of DC's Trinity. They also had one of Lynda Carter's costumes. Whoo!
ITEM! I don't remember where I read it, but there's a rumor that Matthew McConaughey may have landed the role of Captain America. Which... Really? I always thought he was more of a young Michael Biehn.
Of all superheroes, Cap is really the American Superhero ideal. He's the barrel-chested, baritone voiced, two-fisted slugger fighting against fascism. Is that McConaughey? I've never seen his more action oriented flicks. And I don't want a Vin Diesel or some pro-wrestler putting on the feather-headed cowl, so...
And I don't know how many of you have seen the circa 1980 Cap movies made for TV, or the 1990 movie which never made it to theaters (starring no less than the son of JD Salinger), but the costume sorta doesn't work in real life. But I think if they took a look at Hitch's designs for Cap in The Ultimates, then, maybe it won't make him look like a member of the cast of a Superbowl Halftime Show.

The French Fork
Hey Leaguers,
League-pal Letty has started a new food-oriented blog. Letty is from the countryside of France, and a bit of a gourmand. She's mixing stories, observations, etc... and recipes and thoughts on food. And it's good reading. Food is life. Life is food.
Letty became an American citizen in 2007, has been married to League-former-co-worker and pal Juan Garcia for.. a while... I forget. Anyway, their own story is kind of wacky in and of itself.
Here at The League, we adore Letty and we hope to continue to encourage her with her blogging and cooking (which has often benefited The League). So swing on by The French Fork. Tell Letty "howdy".
If you're a food blogger, why not link to her? I'm sure she'd reciprocate.

Jason C. at earthx.org has an excellent post on digital comics. Looks to be the first of a series.
Link for a new movie called Machine Girl. Looks completely awesome, but has some incredibly violent stuff in the trailer. Wacky violent, but... anyway. Mom, don't click.
When I see a trailer that is truly awful and shameless in its pandering, for some odd reason, it brings a smile to my face. And that's how I feel about Alvin and the Chipmunks. I am tempted to actually go see this one, much in the same way I was tempted to see Underdog. That said, I never actually saw Underdog. Draw your own conclusions.
But today, thanks to THIS, I feel some hope.

Dear Jason Lee,
I only wish I could have a tiny scraping of the big pile of money you get for doing completely stupid @#$%.
Sincerely,
The League

New Blog Featuring the Baby-Growing Talents of Denise!
Hey, Leaguers!
Our own Denise is about to have kids. No, not a pair of goats, but a pair of babies.
And, for once, there is a slight chance one may be named Ryan II. You see, Denise's husband is also named Ryan. So while she may lead him to believe that she is naming the babies after that guy, we at League of Melbotis know the truth.
Check out the Bambino Blog!

More time killing links
No matter how poorly written, I see no way in which this book wouldn't be a good read.
Here.
Poorly thought out comic strips
Here.
Marvel makes a move they should have made years ago. DC still trying to figure out if they can put comics online now or must wait until 31st Century (I love Superman comics, but I know DC will not be the first to make sense of late 20th century technologies like PDFs)
Here.
For whatever reason, these Jack Kirby monsters and pages have never been reprinted.
Here.
Also, New Spock. Same as the Old Spock?

Just some stuff
Wagner is in town, but she's headed for the Flugtag (sp?). I was not terribly tempted to show up. Anything before the 1st week in September is always dicey as per heat index.
In the meantime, here's some stuff.
The Top 10 Poor Man's Versions
Goth's Invade Disneyland.
From the "Bats Day at Disneyland" slideshow at LA Weekly: When the Happiest Place on Earth plays host to the saddest people on Earth and the line for the Haunted Mansion is longer than ever
I'm ditching MySpace as soon as I can bother to find a way to alert folks. I'm moving to Facebook. Hopefully I'll get less spam and fewer ads featuring girls giving me a come-hither glance.
Eric Trautmann, the co-writer on last week's issue of Checkmate, showed up to in the comments section at Comic Fodder and was incredibly gracious. Of course, I heart Checkmate, so it was a lot nicer than had many other writers shown up.
You should read Checkmate, btw. And Blue Beetle.
Josh sends along this:
Nothing better than Finn-language YMCA. Some Leaguers may know, the Steans boys are of 1/2 Finn stock. Watching this video, so much becomes clear.
And the following video is exactly like dinner time at JimD's house.

Sleestak Art
Probably because I hit Lady, That's My Skull every day, I had the image of Sleestaks on the brain.
Anyway, hopefully this is something we can all enjoy. Especially candidate Sleestak.

some enjoyable links. sorta.
I don't know how funny this is to folks who've never worked a helpdesk, or to people who've never worked in a tech-based arena.
At any rate, both Jamie and Steven G. Harms sent this to me in the past 24 hours.
Go to the link. I plead of you, go to the link.
And the video below is NOT parent friendly. There is repeated use of some bad words and some generally grim stuff. But I think I'd be remiss if I didn't share. Thanks to Randy for the link.
So much like Jason in high school, it's creepy
Jim, you had a good unicorn related link and I failed to post. Please resend.

League Links
Nathan was recently here for SXSW. He's a bit of a journalista for Texas Public radio in San Antone...
here's some of his reporting. Go to about minute 20.
here's more
And the Texas Matters site
Neil Gaiman's Stardust is now a movie.
Optimus
Megatron
Yes, you can have my $8.00.
And, a timely comic strip...
It's my understanding that the nation of Turkey is a fascinating place with a culture thousands of years old, rich in the arts, and generally not a bad place as long as you don't ride the Midnight Express.
But, here, I don't think they even tried...
